Man Arrested for Suspicion of DUI of Nitrous Oxide
Posted By Admin
Jose Luis Gomez, 29, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of driving under the influence of Nitrous Oxide after a crash that killed a teenage and injured 2 others. According to police commander Steve Colon, Gomez was traveling a high rate of speed when he slammed his car into a tree. Officers believe Gomez's command of the vehicle was impaired after abusing Nitrous Oxide. Abuse of the inhalant can cause unconsciousness, disrupt heart rhythm, and result in brain damage.

Public Shaming on Facebook for Suspected Drunk Drivers
Posted By Admin
The idea of using public shaming on Facebook as a new tactic against drunk driving was suggested at a Huntington Beach City council meeting. According to Lt. Russell Reinbart the city's police department is looking into posting the names of suspected drunk drivers on Facebook. Councilman Devin Dwyer asked police if they could post the names of people arrested for drunk driving on the city's Facebook page.

Their idea is part of an aggressive anti-drunk-driving initiative by the city that asks for more officers focusing on DUI cases, posting the names of people arrested for drunk driving in the city website and letters to bars when one of their patrons is arrested for DUI.

According to a July report by the city there is "a significant DUI problem in Huntington Beach," the report cites 274 alcohol-related collisions and 1,687 drunk-driving arrests last year.

The Facebook proposal will be reviewed by city attorney Jennifer McGrath to ensure there are no legal barriers.

Party Broken Up Due to Facebook, Causing DUI Arrests
Posted By Admin
Several law enforcement agencies met at a Washington residence after someone posted new of a large party on Facebook. Eight people were arrested for being under the age of 21 in possession or under the influence of alcohol. An arrest for driving under the influence was also made as attendants left the party.

If convicted, drivers under 18 years old will loose their license for one year or until they turn 18 years old. A judge may also choose to confiscate the underage driver's vehicle. In all cases the driver will have to pay fines of several thousand dollars, and attend driver's safety and alcohol abuse related classes. Subsequent convictions will lead to harsher penalties.

An underage DUI is a very serious offense. Here at the Hedding law firm we are prepared and experienced in handling many DUI cases and we understand that your freedom is important.  If you need assistance with your DUI case, contact us today at (818) 986-2092.

Man Dressed as a Portable Breathalyzer Arrested for DUI on Halloween
Posted By Admin
Matthew Nieveen, 19, dressed as a portable breathalyzer machine on Halloween and was arrested for drunken driving. He was pulled over after spotted driving erratically. His BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) level was more than twice the states .08 limit and he is not of the legal drinking age. A bottle of vodka and beer was found in his truck after a search was made.

Under the Zero Tolerance Law in California, a underage driver with a BAC reading of 0.01% or higher gets you arrested and your license confiscated. You will lose your license for a year, pay thousands in fines, and you will be required to attend driver's safety and alcohol abuse related classes. If an underage driver has a BAC of 0.05% or greater, they could be charged with a underage DUI and a regular DUI.
